GREAT assembly program- Story Pirates!

Today I attended the BEST in school assembly program/performance I have ever seen at Stark! It's called the Story Pirates and I highly recommend it to all PTOs. The ensemble comes to school and helps the audience create a story. The ensemble performs their story right then, kind of like an improv. They then instruct the kids to write their own personal stories in their classrooms. Stories are collected and sent to the Pirates. The next month, they come back to school and perform 5-8 of the kids' own stories. The program just ties in everything- creativity, literacy, collaboration, arts... They were so energetic and all the grades loved them. My favorite was a story that a 4th grader wrote where "Rock, Paper and Scissors" are real characters and battle it out in a boxing arena. "Rock" was a character based upon Rocky so it was even enjoyable for adults. There were teachers laughing so hard, their eyes were tearing! Part of the program also includes a parent/community night where the ensemble performs more of the kids' stories. They'll be coming back to Stark on May 13th at 6:30pm and all are welcome if you want to check it out. The website is http://storypirates.org/

Great ideas!

Calling all great ideas...

1 good fundraising idea: Clothing/Linen/Toy drive via http://www.clothingdrive.net/ People donate any men's, women's and children's clothing, shoes, accessories, blankets, sheets, curtains, towels, stuffed animals, action figures, purses, backpacks, baby toys, matchbox cars, etc. and the nonprofit gets 15 cents per pound. Westover did it in the Fall and raised a lot for their Nature's Classroom trip. We're doing it for Odyssey of the Mind, so I'll let you know!
